MNWA Update
7/10/2016
by Devin Nelson
After the MNWA June event was cancelled due to schedule conflicts, it was up to the teams to get the remainder of their games in. Some were good at this, others not so much. The Elites and Bad Company started the play when they split a series late in June. This pulled the Elites record to 2-5 and the Bad Company’s to 5-2. Following this round of games, teams struggled to schedule games until July the 7th. The Elites and the Dragons squared-off that evening and some Championship level wiffleball was played. The Dragons took game 1 by the score of 2-0. Zach Bussmann threw a 2 hitter on the hill and proved that he is ready for the competition in Ohio. The Dragons also took game 2, 1-0, in extra innings. Auston Steffes and Devin Nelson both threw gems through 5 innings until the Dragons were able to push one across on an RBI single by Nelson in the top of the 6th.
After these 2 games the Elites sit at 2-7, still in 3rd place on the year with only 1 game remaining for them to better their record. The Dragons sit at 6-1, atop the MNWA and hold a 1 game lead over the 5-2 Bad Company. Each of these teams have 3 games remaining, including 1 against one another. The Buxtons still sit at 1-4, in last place, but with skill and a lot of luck still could take the top spot in the regular season standings. As the MNWA and its players prepare for Ohio, regular season games take a backseat, possible until the day before the Final Tournament at JC Memorial Field in Ashby.
