MNWA Mariners

In 2013, I started playing in the HRL: Twin Cities wiffleball league. I was a rookie on the expansion Tigers and I didn't know anyone in the league. Needless to say, it was a tough year as the team did extremely poorly and back injuries kept me out of about a third of the season. Even though my rookie season ended on a sour note, I knew it HRL was something I wanted to do with a group of guys from MNWA. SO next year at the 2014 NWLA Tournament, I met Truck from HRL and we talked and I asked him to keep us near the top of the lsit of expansion teams. And throughout the NWLA Tournaments we have played since, MNWA and HRL have intermingled and we've made a lot of friendships. And with all of that, MNWA players in the area became more and more anxious to get a team within the HRL. Well that finally became a reality late this summer when I was asked by HRL to captain a new franchise in the the Hopkins division. I graciously accepted and now I'd like to officially announce the name, Mariners, and roster of our team.
The Mariners roster currently consists of 7 MNWA veterans. I, Trent Steffes, will captain the team and play DH. Our pitching staff will consist of my Bad Comapany teammates Matt Newell and Garrett Grage, and my younger brother Auston Steffes. Rounding out the team will be three quick, amazing fielders. Ben Kapsner and Kevin Knutson will anchor an elite fielding core alongside guarunteed Hopkins Rookie of the Year winner, and best hitter at the 2015 NWLA Regionals and National Tournament: Peter Monsrud.
Humbly, our goal is the playoffs. Anything less than playoffs with the talent on this roster would be unacceptable to all those involved. Furthermore as a manager, I not only want the Hopkins Rookie of the Year from the Mariners, but I don't want there to even be another team's player involved in the discussion. Come May, the Mariners will be hell-bent on setting the HRL on fire and showing those who don't already know that MNWA are not to be overlooked.
